Principal's Message

Welcome to Swainsboro Primary School “Where Cubs Become Tigers”!

My name is Sarah Tapley and I am the principal at Swainsboro Primary School. I have over 20 years of experience as an educator and I have worked in this school for 15 years. I have served as a teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, and now I fill the position of principal.

At Swainsboro Primary School, we strive to provide our students with the best educational experience by creating a safe, positive learning environment, by providing rigorous standards based instruction using the state adopted standards, and by ensuring that individual needs of each and every student are met. Our highly qualified staff members collaborate and share best practices on a regular basis through professional learning communities in an effort to meet the needs of our students at all levels. Student safety, academic achievement, and building character are our top priorities.

As a school, we have developed three overarching goals that we are committed to improving upon this school year. The first goal is to increase the number of students performing “on or above grade level” on the MAP assessment. This assessment is administered three times each year. Teachers gather, analyze, and use student data to make instructional decisions for each student. We will add an intervention/enrichment time to our daily schedule during the new school year. This “Tiger Time” will be used to address individual student needs to help students reach their full potential. Our second goal is to increase the number of occasions that we are able to meet with families in a face to face environment. We have plans for more interactive PTO meetings, more scheduled open house opportunities, and the encouragement of face to face parent meetings in lieu of phone conferences. Our final goal is to support and encourage positive student behavior on our campus and on our school buses. We are incorporating a new character education program at SPS this year in order to provide instruction to our students about different character traits, such as respect, responsibility, empathy, and cooperation. Through this program, students will learn proactive strategies to be able to help them work through their emotions to provide a positive outcome instead of reacting negatively to their emotions and their feelings.

We encourage parents to utilize the various forms of communication that are provided by our school system. These include our Swainsboro Primary School website, our Swainsboro Primary School Facebook page, Kinvolved, and Parent Portal. By using these communication avenues, you will be able to stay up to date on information concerning your student and events that are taking place at SPS.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to serving you and your family throughout the school year!
