Visitors & Volunteers

VISITORS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

  • As required by Georgia law, all visitors MUST report to the office and sign in upon arrival at Swainsboro Primary School.
  • Parents will be invited to visit their child/children’s classroom during predetermined times.
  • Parents may not go to classrooms without obtaining a “Visitor’s Pass.”
  •  Visitors must also check out and return the pass when leaving the school.
  • It is the responsibility of parents to notify school authorities if there are immediate family members who are NOT ALLOWED to see or visit the child.

The ONLY open entrance is located at the front of the school.

SPS staff are instructed NOT to open doors to let any visitors into our school.

VOLUNTEERS
  • Swainsboro Primary School is privileged to have a number of volunteers who come into our school regularly.  Various groups from Swainsboro Elementary, Middle, High Schools, East Georgia State College, and Georgia Southern University also volunteer at our school.  We also have local groups in our community that volunteer.  Our volunteers have made a great impact on our students, and we appreciate all their efforts.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the school office for additional information and requirements for volunteers.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS
  • When teachers must be absent, we enlist the services of a substitute teacher.  These are specially trained individuals who must adapt to any school setting and routine, and they play a vital role in the education of our students.
  • Please remind your child that substitute teachers are guests in our school and should be treated with respect.
  • Disciplinary action will be taken against students who are uncooperative, rude, or disruptive.
  • In the rare event of misconduct by substitutes, parents are requested to contact the principal or assistant principal immediately.

PARENT – TEACHER ORGANIZATION (PTO)
  • Swainsboro Primary School has an active and supportive Parent – Teacher Organization.
  • All parents are encouraged to become a part of this organization and to show support for your children and our school by your participation.
  • PTO meetings dates will be announced during the school year.

PARENT / TEACHER CONFERENCES

  • Parent-Teacher conferences can be a productive way of helping to improve student performance.  Parents are asked to call the school to schedule a conference with a teacher.  All teachers are available for conferences before and after school and during their plan time.  Even though Swainsboro Primary School makes every effort to accommodate parent schedules, instructional time must be protected as well.  All conferences should be prearranged.
  • Parents desiring to talk to a teacher may do so during the teacher’s plan time and/or after school. All classroom visits and teacher meetings must be predetermined. Teachers will NOT be available to talk to parents at any other time.
  • Teachers will notify you if you need to meet for a parent-teacher conference.  Teachers will attempt to conference with each and every parent during the school year.
  • Home – school communication and cooperation are extremely important to student success.
  • If parents phone a teacher at school, office staff will gladly take a message and have the teacher return your call when it is convenient to do so. Teachers will not be summoned to the phone to talk to parents unless there is an extreme emergency.
  • All classes use communication folders. We expect parents to check and initial these folders each day to stay in communication with teachers.
