Academics & Honors

DAILY AND WEEKLY PROGRESS CHECKS
  • Weekly letters from your child’s teacher and work done for the week will be sent home weekly.  Make sure you read the letter to see what is planned for the next week, as well as checking your child’s progress on work completed.
  • Homework may be assigned in both first and second grades and occasionally in Kindergarten. 
  • Please check your child’s book bag or folder daily for work that needs to be finished or done.  Homework is a viable tool in the education of our students. 

 

FIELD TRIPS

  • Field trips are offered as an extension of school instructional programs.
  • There is a small transportation fee for each field trip for each student, which must be paid by parents.
  • Field trips to some venues require an admission fee, which must be paid by parents. Parents may accompany students on some field trips by driving personal vehicles. 
  • Student participation in field trips is dependent upon the daily behavior of the student.

REPORT CARDS and GRADING
  • Report cards are sent home by students every nine weeks.  
  • Dates are:  October 22, January 8, March 25, and May 21.
  • Progress reports are sent home after the first four weeks of each grading period.
  • The dates for Progress Reports are:  September 10, November 19, February 11, and April 22.
  • Deficiency in academics, poor attendance and chronic tardiness will be included.  
  • Parents are expected to sign the report card and/or progress report and return each to their child’s teacher the next school day.  
  • Information about Work Habits and Social Development is also included.

E = Exceeds

M = Meets

P = Progressing

N = Not Yet Demonstrated

NE = Not Evident

A = 90-100

B = 80-89

C = 70-79

F = 69 or below

 

S = 70 or above

N = Below 70

GRADE DISTRIBUTION

Kindergarten = Standards

Grades 1-2   =  40% Classwork/Homework, 50% Chapter Test/Quizzes, 10% Unit Tests/Performance Tasks

 

INFINITE CAMPUS / PARENT PORTAL

The Emanuel County Schools Parent Portal is a secure website that you can use to track your child's progress in school. You may go on our county website to obtain additional information at www.emanuel.k12.ga.us.  The goal of the Parent Portal is to create a better partnership and dialogue between parents and teachers. We hope that you will use it regularly and become a partner with us in your child's education.

 

HONOR ROLL POLICY

  • Star Honor Roll - A student with ALL “A’s” in ALL subjects on their report card for each 9 week period shall be recognized for making Star Honor Roll.
  • Honor Roll -  A student with a 90 or above overall average in each subject area, with no grade below 80 on their report card shall be recognized as making Honor Roll.
  • There is no rounding up for the student averages.
  • There is NO Honor Roll in Kindergarten.

DELIVERY OF INSTRUCTION

Kindergarten

  • The 12 Kindergarten classes are divided into 2 teams of 6 teachers each: Team A and Team B. These classes work together on special projects, take field trips together, and have the same activity and lunch times.
  • Each Kindergarten class is instructed by both a certified teacher and paraprofessional.
  • All subjects are taught within the Kindergarten classroom.
  • Students attend one activity class each day, including P.E./Health, Music and Movement, STEAM, Character Education, and Art.

 

First Grade
  • The 12 First Grade classes are divided into 2 teams of 6 teachers each: Team A and Team B. These classes work together on special projects, take field trips together, and have the same activity and lunch times.
  • All first grade teachers collaborate within their teams to plan instruction in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science for all the students. All subjects are taught within the First Grade classroom.
  • Students attend one activity class each day, including P.E./Health, Music and Movement, STEAM, Character Education, and Art.

 

Second Grade

  • The 12 Second Grade classes are divided into 2 teams of 6 teachers each: Team A and Team B.
  • Team A is the math team and Team B is the ELA team. 2nd grade is departmentalized which means that all students will have at least 2 teachers - one teacher who teaches math, science and social studies. The other teacher will teach ELA.
  • All second grade teachers collaborate within their teams to plan instruction in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science for all the students.
  • Students attend one activity class each day, including P.E./Health, Music and Movement, STEAM, Character Education, and Art.
